What Exactly Is an ‘ISP’? A ‘WISP’?
An ISP is an ‘Internet Service Provider’. An ISP is a private company or non-profit group that provides Internet connectivity to you and me. While no single organization owns the Internet and the Web, ISP’s do provide the paid service of connecting people to the Internet’s massive network. Some ISP’s also offer wireless connections, and are accordingly named WISP’s. ISP’s and WISP’s also offer additional services, like email and voice-over-IP telephoning.
