Changing File Extensions

Does your hosting account have a file manager? You should be able to rename files from within your hosting account file manager. Or if you ftp, then download and use filezilla — http://filezilla.sourceforge.net. When you use filezilla as your ftp, you can just right click on files to rename them. (I hear Smart FTP does even more.)

The Windows desktop does not let us readily (easily, transparently . . .) change filename extensions, so I use Notetab Lite as my text editor. You can just open a file in Notetab and then rename the file by right clicking its tab. For example, Notetab lets you rename file.txt –> file.php. You can download the free version — NoteTab lite — from http://www.notetab.com.

Hey, and here is a program that will unzip almost anything: 7zip. You can get it at http://www.7-zip.org.
